Fashion Cycle.... Josie Lim

I don’t usually follow fashion trends. I’m someone who wakes up and just chooses whatever she wants to wear, whether it’s “in” or not. Experimenting, mixing and matching are part of my game. On the boring-est days, I just put on pants or shorts, then a comfy T-shirt and flip-flops – I’m good to go! Sometimes I follow the trends without knowing. I look around me and gosh, we have the same shirt design, and ask, is that actually in season? Haha.

But sometimes, I follow the trends on purpose – like not wearing my favorite bell-bottomed jeans since my dad commented it’s so yesterday… so I jumped into skinny jeans. But by that time, everyone’s already wearing it, I’m not, so yeah, I’m kind of late. The trend didn’t die down yet though.

I am definitely not an easy fashion adaptor. I am also too un-influential to be a fashion innovator, at least, for now, despite my carefree ways in fashion.

I believe sometimes I do influence people. For example, last January, I got my hair chopped off and got full bangs, since I really wanted to have them. They’re pretty popular already, in a way I was influenced by the trendsetters of the hairstyle. After I got my haircut, two of my flatmates and my sister also got full bangs for themselves. So perhaps this shows I’m a fashion motivator / adaptor in my dreaming-to-be-innovator-someday position. =)

I love CT 11 for enlightening me to a lot of things. Thank you Ms. Kitty, and thanks a lot too, groupmates!

My Favorite Fashion Designer| Rj Santos

I am so excited for this one! This is by far the most exciting post Miss Kitty made us do. Anyway, I really have so many designers in mind and I found it difficult to really choose one because I personally don't like 'levelling'. Hahaha. I really never came to that point wherein I analyze and really choose one person until today. But, I have to do what I have to do Hahahaha. It's actually surprisingly fun narrowing and choosing a favorite. Ok, anyway, so, after the long deliberation, I ended up choosing.....
Hedi Slimane!!! haha yeah, the 'runner-ups' include Marc Jacobs, John Galliano, Yohji Yamamoto, DSquared, Alexander McQueen, The D and the G(haha you know...), Raf Simmons, Christian Audigier, Paul Smith, Giorgio Armani, the designer of Topman(Kim Jones), Lanvin and ACNE!!, Ann Demeulemeester, Ivarluski Aseron, Leslie Mobo, Oliver Tolentino.
I chose Hedi Slimane as my favorite designer because his designs really intrigue me. They astonish me in a way that it motivates me to keep exploring and experimenting. I also adore the fact that aside from being a great designer, he isa also a photographer which is definitely a plus. It's actually the tie-breaker haha cause I was choosing between Galianno and him. For me, the design itself is not enough, how you present it is also really important and one way of presenting it is by photography. I really like his style in photography also! I am a sucker for black and white simple photography, so yeah.
I like and applaud his designs which are very wearable yet innovative. I love it that his designs are somehow ispired by the British Punk Act, it's so exciting! I like it that he keeps it simple even if some of his designs are very uhmmm... loud? He also has good taste in music cause he collaborated with Daft Punk which is my favorite! :-))

Hedi Slimane is authentic. He is not the kind of deisigner who is conscious or in the lookout with the trend. He creates and starts the trend. Hedi creates a statement everytime he does something. He is 'his own client'. One thing about him that makes me very interested about him is because he is post-modern.

My Favorite Fashion Designer | CHOI, Han Na

My favorite fashion designer is Andre Kim. He is very famous and popular in Korea. He is making a top brand name in a wide variety of goods, including golfwear, children’s clothing, underwear, cosmetics, eyewear, jewelry and even home fashions.

Andre Kim presented his first fashion show in Paris, France in 1966. His creations were accorded such rave reviews that fashion editors of France, including one at Le Figaro, called him a ‘Magician from Fairyland.’

He was perhaps the first fashion maestro to stage a gala fashion parade in front the Pyramid of Egypt, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. In the month of December in 2006, he presented an even more impressive gala fashion parade in front of another one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Ankor Wat in Cambodia. Again, this is the world’s first ever fashion show held in Ankor Wat.

Presenting such gala fashion shows in the capitals and other major cities around the world over the past four decades, Andre Kim has been fully introducing the excellence of the Korean culture and art to the outside world. He is a world-renowned maestro of fashion and art and an ambassador of culture and diplomacy.

My Favorite Fashion Designer | Tin Iglesias

Well, designers, in my case.

I personally adore Balmain's Christophe Decarnin for his sense of enthusiasm and boldness that is the soul, the quintessence of rock and roll. Balenciaga's Nicolas Ghesquiere, for his innovative taste for clothing. Avant-garde designer Ann Demeulemeester, for her cutting-edge fashion fused with being wearable. Alexander Wang, for his flair to mix opulence with edge. Olivier Theyskens, former art director of fashion house Nina Ricci, for his incredible combinations of formal and informal, tough and tender likewise. Red Label, Gold Label, Man and Anglomania's Vivienne Westwood, for her ability to create a wonderful look out of something relatively un-sexy; her designs are some of the most imaginative and novel pieces that never date. Martin Margiela, for his expertise in deconstruction and reconstruction of garments. Jeremy Scott for his inimitable and eclectic style, as well as his fearless and zestful designs. His collaborations with clothing brands have been tremendous! Marc Jacobs for his clever revamps of vintage styles; his implausible own line and Louis Vuitton. Yves Saint Laurent's Stefano Pilati, for making the brand live on superbly; whose brilliant eye's specifically tuned to the future. Japanese designers like Yohji Yamamoto and Rei Kawakubo are also spectacular. I have a penchant for the mix-match of different styles and genres of the Japanese.

For the pinnacle of my post, my much-loved designer would be...

Karl Lagerfeld! I admire him because of his astounding ability to produce such vast array of designs and structures, concepts and grandeur year upon year. There is little in our world that Mr. Lagerfeld hasn't touched, inspired, or done himself. In my opinion, he is a guru of designs, a messiah of fashion, and a man of fundamental style. He inspires me, as do all of Chanel and his photographs; it is every aspect of his life that I find utterly overwhelming. Someday, I'll be like him (I'll keep my fingers crossed). :)

I love my Starbucks planner because it gives me a place to sketch my faves: YSL tribute boots and Karl Lagerfeld

Locally, it would have to be Louis Claparols, John Paras, Kermit Tesoro, Dimple Lim, Mich Dulce, Dax Bayani, Anna Leah Salvador and the list just goes on. Filipino style, I suppose, has progressed significantly in the last decade. I think that it is in accordance with the international standards.

Ms. Kitty, would you believe I have a lot more to cite? Sadly, this space wouldn't be enough to list all the fabulous designers I have high regard for, both local and international (I don't want to consume your time moreover). In fact, I had a tough time choosing my top designers. Hahaha. THIS IS BY FAR MY FAVORITE TOPIC! I LOVE!

I chose them because I believe that they can design clothes that will fit in every woman's needs and wants. They can make any woman feel like she's worth a million bucks, or whatever metaphor fitting in this sentence. I aspire to be as creative and as audacious as these designers as I journey my way to clothing technology.

I honestly still don't know where I stand in the cycle. I feel like I am an innovator because I want to create new looks instead of just following what's 'hip'. As I've said in our past meetings in our CT11 class, I get inspiration from things that are opposite to my style, so that I can innovate and create new things. Having said these things, I don't know if I can call myself the innovator yet because I haven't really influenced a great number of people yet, having known that the fashion innovator should be able to 'trickle down' his style to the masses. Therefore, I think that I'm also a part of the 'masses' where innovators can also get ideas from, following the 'trickle up' theory.

I am the kind of person who'd play with things, rather than just using something the way it should be used, or something like that. :-)) Like in my paintings, I usually distort it or add something to it that would make it look odd or something. I like adding mystery to my works, I like the feeling of 'bitin' that I get when I look at someone's work also. I really don't like following trends because it does not always fit my style.

I really think that I'm more of the 'innovator' rather than the follower because of the fact that I don't get my style from the latest trends, which what followers usually do. Usually ha. :-))

As for the lecture about this, I'm really glad that I'm learning things like this in our CT11 subject. I've learned that clothing is also a psychological thing. I always enjoy discussing these matters. :-)
