Group Presentations//CHOI, Han NA

Learning new thing is quite exiciting. Making bracelets with yarn, crochet, applique, beadwork, and dying. To be honest, presentation was bored...... But I like to do activities.. I expect the Andeng's new activity!!^-^

make-up class

It's been a while since I checked this site because I can't log-in. I forgot the password =.=
Anyway, the make-up class helped me to realize that I can do something about my face...there's still hope... :D HAHAHA
The "THING" that only serves as my make-up is my eyeliner. HAHA oh gad, it's like the only thing I have that I can call "make-up".
For me, the fundamental of make-up is knowing how to highlight your features, not change them. That would be weird if it did change your face or alter it to make you look like angelina jolie.. haha funny...
Iliked the lesson because it was fun and it helped me a lot. I can now use what I learned to look better and to appreciate myself more.
Recently, I attended a debut and put some make-up just beacause I want to use colored eyes shadows... HAHA I realized that you have to really allot a certain time for doing it... It takes a looooot of your time :D but it was worth it.. :D All in all I enjoyed the lecture :D it was cool. I am now proud to say that I recently bought an eyeliner from the face shop and a mascara... which was the cause of a fight between me and my beloved one... HAHA, pero of course I won! (sabi niya kasi i don't need make-up cause i'm pretty na.. bleh. haha which was of course a BOLA)

In this world, NOBODY should be called Ugly.. because it defies the existence of make-up.. and besides, that's what make-up was made for.. SO USE IT! :D

ACTS ACLE. Josie.

Before the ACLE, I went to Sara's for a drink and met a photographer who wants to try fashion photography. So I told him about out ACLE, and he did come too. I also invited a fashion addict friend to come over. :) They told me our ACLE was really well-organized and managed. Yey.

We had so much fun. Our speakers were from Project Runway 2. Mr. Santi Obcena was funny, with his “inay” jokes and all. He taught us deconstruction. Ms. Tracy Dizon taught us where to find the best bargains around the Metro. Both speakers gave us tips, from using fabric pens to how to pick the best clothes in thrift shops.

In our deconstruction activity, our group created a skirt out of a pink, lacy fabric. Then we attached it to a brown tank top, so it became a dress... The best part was the bolero, which was from a pair of shorts. :) We played around with our creativity, and it was an enjoyable experience where I learned a lot.

Ukay Experience. Josie.

I suck at picking clothes in Ukays! I don't have the patience for it! But having your classmates shop together with you is fun, and finally, due to me and my partner's efforts (Maggie was my partner :) ) we were finally able to buy some things with the designated budget.

Thrift shops are like treasure chests. You don't know, maybe you can find something very nice, if you can only stretch your patience and set your mind to what you wanna buy. And best of all, it's cheap!

During the presentation though, I appreciated the fact that we were corrected and instructed on how to wear what we bought better. :) Contrast and transition was the theme.
Though my nose was irritated with the smell and all, I was happy that I learned something. I'm planning to go back to that Ukay-ukay place sometime, and who knows what treasures I'll unearth in there.

Fashion Consultation - Josie Lim

During the fashion consultation, I had extreme lots of fun. I really felt like a professional! Grabe.
At first I almost had no clients, that I was quite nervous. Then Han Na's friend came by! So we suggested clothes that work out for her.

Thank God my friends responded to my text messages! So then we finally had clients. I was consulting my highschool buddies and we were conversing in Ilonggo, so it was easier to communicate. They told me they were amazed by our fashion powers! A friend that Janina consulted told me she was happy that she's now able to pick her clothes better :)
By the late afternoon, I was hungry and thirsty already, but then a client had a lot of questions to ask. I was still happy to answer her questions, though. I think we talked for more than an hour? Haha.

I was really thankful that we received good feedback from the clients. For example, the Swimming PE class after that Monday, one classmate in PE who Andeng consulted told me how amazed she was with our course. Yey! Go CT!

This has been an exhilarating experience, and I'm very thankkkful xxx 10000!

Make-up activity| RJ Santos

Ok, so last week, we had our little make-up activity where we had to do our own make up. Yes, all of us.. :-)) At first I was kinda scared to be brushed and all but what the hell.. :-)) Miss Kitty told me to just do contouring. So, I did. Well, I tried. :-)) I asked help from Lhenvil cause I know he knows how to do that. He actually did my make-up then I tried to put some more. I ended up looking like a mess! :-)) My cheeks and nose were so dark. Hahaha

Anyway, regardless of how hard it was to do make up(now I know why girls need atleast 3 hours to get fixed), I actualy had fun. :-)) I thought to myself that if I were to really pursue a career in fashion, I really need to know make-up. It is one of the biggest factors in fashion. I need to know atleast the basic principles of it so that I can present my works 'completely'. Make-up is an essential tool for achieving something.

ACLE| Rj Santos

Our ACLE was pure fun! :-D
The speakers were funny and great. I learned so much from them. They taught us how to reconstruct old clothes. It was very educational.
My favorite part was the activity where we had to reconstruct 4/5 clothes. Our group had a polo, shirt, long sleeved shirt and a green skirt. We decided to go for the modern boho look. We turned the floral polo into a skirt and a bolers, the sleeves of the shirt to a belt and maintained the shirt but did some alterations. I'm so proud with our work. ;-D

Make-Up Class | Tin Iglesias

Applying make-up is a fun and creative activity. It’s fun to try new colors and application techniques. I put on make-up to look girly and to match it with my outfit. When I go partying with friends, it’s pretty much the norm. Sometimes I even put on make-up just out of boredom! Hahaha.

Make-up for me, serves the function of an accessory. Take an elegant dress without make-up for example, it is rather odd just as wearing sneakers with a dress. I like how make-up offers more consistent complexion and coloration; and how it can moderate perceived imperfections in one’s face. I am not really a fanatic about make-up(I wear it occasionally) and I don't really pile it on, however I do know that I look better, feel better(more prepared and put-together) about myself when I'm wearing my make-up. I am grateful for Ms. Kitty’s lesson! Not only did I learn how to apply make-up properly, I also learned which cosmetic tools and make-up suits my skin tone best. I shall buy the green watercolor concealer thing to offset my blemishes! It's so cool. ;)

ACLE | Tin Iglesias

The ACLE was so fun and edifying. I learned about reconstruction! Certainly, it is a great way to recycle instead of just throwing things out. I realized that almost anything can be turned into something else if you experiment enough. I think some people are put off with the notion of reconstructed clothing because they do not know where to start and they think it involves an immense amount of creativity and/or skill. But guest speakers Santi Obcena and Tracy Dizon from Project Runway Philippines Season 2 pointed out that with minimal crafting skills it is easy to turn old clothes you no longer wear into great new pieces. They both gave us guidelines to help us prevent the downhill spiral of disappointment while still allowing our creative juices to do it our own way.

Also, the speakers discussed some styling tips on how to look chic without spending a fortune. One of the easiest ways to update your look without having to spend a lot is through accessories. It can instantaneously convert outfits from average to extraordinary and from uninteresting to phenomenal fashion hits. They even shared to us some places where we can buy the most excellent materials for design and reasonably priced clothing pieces.

The activity thereafter was fun likewise! We did our own deconstruction and styling. It did not only allow me to apply what we learned, but it also was a way for me to bond and get to know my other course mates. It was awe-inspiring seeing everyone get innovative, altering their pieces to create a whole outfit. It was nice knowing one could construct a stylish outfit from too threadbare to wear anymore pieces. Now, I think I am more equipped and ready for more DIY projects! :)

The Make-Up Class//CHOI, Han Na

Well… What to say about the make-up learning for today… I am not familiar with make-up since the Phil. weather is so hot; I do not want to apply any make-up. I only apply sun block cream when I go out.

It was so amazing to look at Ms. Kitty’s make-up lecture. Her make-up skills were quite the same with Korean because I usually see the sales ladies who make-up very heavy and very red on their cheek and that is what I do not appreciate with. I learned how to use different foundations and highlighting. Even though I did not really do something while others were so happy to apply make-up on their face, I did what I usually make-up when I go to church every Sunday.

I noticed that make-up is also important to be a designer. We also draw the fashion figure with colors to express the make-up on face. Maybe, I could practice one by one as Ms. Kitty mentioned.^o^

The Ukay Activity//CHOI, Han Na

I was so tired before we start the activity. I needed to transfer from MRT to LRT to be Anonas Station. I did not know how to use the ticket machine in Cubao LRT station because using machine is different from Korea (phil: press the station button first, then, insert coin; Korea: insert the coin first, then, press the station button.) Anyway, I got correct way to be Anonas and I was little bit late…T-T


Our group’s theme for the outfit was repetition and concentrism. It was very hard to look for the outfit. But we finally could find a blouse and a black skirt for our theme. Andeng was our model and she seemed that she liked that outfit. I mean we all satisfied with our outfit.:)


During the presentation Andeng was not feeling well… So she could not attend the class. I hope we still have a chance to present our outfit to classmate!!

Make-up Class | Yana Santiago

I had fun today! Eventhough RJ ruined my life by doing my 'make-up'. KIDDING! :) I learned that make-up is not just make-up. It could be part of our clothing. The face you show to the world will be of a great deal. We should present ourselves well to others- that is why we have make-up. I also learned that make-up could somehow manipulate the shape of your face, eyes, etc.

Overall, it was a fun experience. I was amazed by Ms. Kitty's and Lhenvil's make-up kits. I want!

- I thought the writer gave an objective point-of-view.

- The fashion individuality expression given was a non-conformist/non-convention/eclectic/androgynous type of style.

- My opinion towards the theses given is also an objective one. i believe that every individual has the right to self-express. Everyone has a unique way of expressing themselves--there are no formulas to expression even to self-discovery. What we may think right or proper for us may not be the same to others. We just have to learn to accept and embrace each other's uniqueness and individuality. Anyway, we can't also appreciate things without experiencing its opposites. They're both important. And they're both challenge and make things in life alive.

The article is basically about being an individual and expressing yourself. It focuses on Todd Bennett, a student who's being discriminated by people because of how he looks. For him, he is a normal person, he's just not typical. The way he dresses reflects his personality. He also says that he dresses that way not because he is gay, but because that's who he is. People tend to hate him because of his guts to dress like that.

The article also pointed out that even in a conformist community, there are subgroups who has their own 'thing'. And in that subgroup, there is also another subgroup. So the point there is that there is still individaulism in a conformist community.

As for the writer, his approach to the theses is very open, or he doesn't take sides. He tries to understand Bennett and at the same time give his hypothesis on why he thinks people treat him that way. He is not bias.

Fashion individuality is basically just being yourself, being true to yourself. It doesn't necessarily require someone to dress over the top or outrageous. It depends on your personal style and view on things. It just so happens that Todd's imagination and views are more loud. I can say that Todd's counter part is Lady GaGa. They're both loud and they are very individualistic.

For, me, I would say that the theses is very good. I strongly agree on what the author and Todd have to say about individualism. I also like the part where Todd said that it's ok for him to be criticized by people as long as they don't mess with him physically, or abuse him.

The Ukay Experience :-))| Rj Santos

Grabe. :-)) One word that would best describe our activity. I felt like I was in a reality show.. HAHAH seriously. The pressure, the time limit, the task, everything! HAHAHA It was super hard to find stuff, but at the same time UBER fun! Our design principles were parallelism and concentrism.

Lhenvil, Jaime, and I kinda achieved the look we were aiming for. We planned to to this bird woman look, but we ended up with a bird-hunter look. Still connected. :-))

I have to say I am super proud with what we did. I mean, considering that we only had a day to fix and alter everthing, I would say that we did a good job! :-) Congrats to us. I super enjoyed working with them. I loveed Ukay, the place to be. :-)) Labo

The article tells us that fashion is what you wear and how you want to present yourself to the world. In Todd Bennett's case, given that he likes to have fun and typical things bore him, his appearance is one of the chief ways he expresses himself. Generally, "different" is considered bad until someone realizes that different can mean creative and out of the ordinary. Growing up, kids just want to fit in with other kids. Yet for Todd, it’s the other way around. Being different for him isn’t just good; it is essential. He prefers individuality over conformity. He refuses to give into the constant globalization process that seems to evolve with each passing day.

I, in fact, have a high regard for Todd. I personally think that we should believe in ourselves a little more instead of worrying what others think so much. I believe people should be able to co-exist - people of varying religious beliefs, political perspectives, cultural heritages, sexual orientations, and whatnot. As stated in the article “I will accept anybody as a friend. Fat, thin, black, white, old or young” and “Conformity is not necessarily bad. I appreciate conservatives – they make a wonderful contrast.” Why not look for the common concern and find the reasons to acknowledge others? Why not be grateful for each other and care for the well-being of all?

I liked the article because I can somehow relate to it. For me, I don't really mind healthy criticism. It helps me become a better person. However, there could be a point in one's life when you get attacked from all corners. It's fine because in due course, things will pass. In reality, I once received a pretty mean comment on an article I wrote for a fashion website. That person didn’t like one of the looks I styled. According to her, it is a strict no-no to use leggings as pants. Sure I was saddened by it, as well as the person I styled (as long as the top is covering the crotch, for us it’s absolutely fine). Good thing my boss made an effort to cheer me up. She told me that it’s hard to deal with negative comments; but in its place, I should take such in a good way - to observe things about my style I may not notice, but remember to stick to my guns and mode. Subsequently, quite a few sent me a message (some from other countries) in relation to the article I wrote. They told me that I actually did a great job, that they liked the post so much, and that I am talented. (WHUUUT XD)

Reminiscent of Todd Bennett, I also like to have fun and enjoy life. I love having fun with fashion. I like taking risks; experimenting and mixing diverse patterns and textures. So, why care about other people's opinions about what you wear when it's your style? It is never too late to break down the barriers and run free. One way to do that is through your clothing. Show the world that being you is wonderful beyond doubt and most of all exceptional.

Ukay-Ukay Shopping & Presentation | Tin Iglesias

Ukay-ukay shopping was tiring; nevertheless I had heaps of fun looking for clothes, notwithstanding the striking odor, heat and dust! Hahaha. I always enjoy shopping at flea markets and anything of that sort because I get to be stylish, even on a budget.

Mia and I weren’t able to find the PERFECT outfit. :( Our group was assigned alternation and contrast. We had difficulty rummaging for alternation but with persistence and willpower, we managed to look for something that would pass to our requirements, rather similar to our peg.

Two days after our lab/field work, we presented our ukay finds in class. It was awesome seeing my classmates get innovative. My classmates looked really good! Indeed, one doesn’t need a thousand peso bankroll or hire a personal stylist to look fashionable. One can still look amazing without spending a lot. Thanks to the thrilling shopping phenomenon that is UK! I am looking forward to equally stimulating lab/field works in the future as I want to learn and practice more on design principles and different body types.

Fashion Consultation | CHOI, Han Na

Last August 3, 2009 was the 48th anniversary of College of Home Economics. So we had an activity to celebrate for it.

We had a free fashion consultation. I was so worried at first time if I could manage it well. But I was so happy when my best friend, Vicky (she is from Malaysia), came to encouage me. I did not know what to do first, so I asked Josie to have a pair work. We told Vicky that her body type is round; she seemed know herself very well better than us. We suggested her to avoid wearing warm color, vertical line, round-neck clothes, ect. She was satisfied with our suggestions. And also, Josie helped me to have consultation with her friend. Her firend's body type was inverted triangle. I suggested her to let more one's eyes on her bottom part of the body for body balace and to avoid wearing clothes which make her shoulder looks wider. And finally, my Korean friend, Joy, came for the consultation with her roommate, a Japanese. Both of them have tubular body type like me. We shared our style and we found out that we usually wear the same style such as dark colors on bottom part and warm or neutral colors on upper part of the body.

All of them who I had consultation were also interested about fashion nowadays and they all wanted to try something new style after having consultation. I do not know if I suggested well but I really tried my best to give all information I have.

I was really enjoyed with the consultation. I think that I learned something during the activity and I have more confidence to communicate with other people now. Even I was having hard time to communicate with Achan, a Japanese friend, but we could understand each other through body language and drawing...^-^;;; I really appreciate again to all of my friends. This experience would be vivid remembrance in my life.

Fashion Consultation | Tin Iglesias

The fashion consultation was rather exhausting yet very fun and instructive. Strenuous because throughout the first hour of my shift, my group barely had clients, and so Tine and I roamed around the campus to look for people who are interested. It was a good thing that the people who sought our help were very open-minded and involved. It was truly nice to see how most of them were especially inquisitive about the latest trends, styles and looks that are making a splash in the world of style. How most of them were incredibly eager to improve their style of clothing. That's why I did my best to give people advice that will help them attain what they want - whether it is to make a good impression, or merely to feel good about themselves. I honestly had difficulty in discussing to my clients their flaws and anything of that sort because I did not want to sound pretty rude. Flaws part aside; I think the whole activity was relatively easy and amusing. In view of the fact that I enjoy watching beauty and fashion makeover shows, I was able to somehow digest, take Tim Gunn's Guide to Style for example, the show's principles. How those principles can make a tremendous transformation for someone externally and internally. Also, Ms. Kitty was there to guide us(huge relief!), as well as my CT classmates.

After everything, I learned that it's essential for fashion consultants to be sensitive to others, respectful of people's individual tastes, body types, and lifestyles. Consultants should be tactful as well as tasteful and excellent communicators. Overall, I am glad that I was able to help a lot of people. I am looking forward to having activities similar to the fashion consultation in the future as I want to edify people the importance of clothing in improving their image and wellness; and to practice and enhance my skills moreover. Certainly, I had an awesome experience as a fashion consultant. Hurrah to CT! Sayang, I wasn't able to stay longer for Ms. Kitty's treat. (Natuloy ba miss?) Hahaha I kid! ;)
